The inspiration behind Michael Morpurgo’s ‘Why the Whales Come’, Bryher is an island of infinite variety and home to the smallest community on the Isles of Scilly. The west coast is rugged and wild, whereas the east coast is more sheltered, with views over the channel to Tresco.

The north of the island offers the wilderness and heathland of Shipman Head, while the south has wonderful beaches, especially the small and peaceful Rushy Bay. Inland, the island abounds with cottages and their bountiful cottage gardens as well as fields, heather and wild flowers.

Isles of Scilly
28 miles off Land’s End you will find the Isles of Scilly, a uniquely beautiful archipelago of more than 100 islands, only five of which are inhabited. Designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and home to 2000 islanders, the Isles of Scilly are often described as ‘a world apart,’ a world where daily life is governed by the tides and the weather.
