Pilot Gig racing is the national sport on Scilly, and Tregarthen’s Hotel is the ideal vantage point from which to observe the island teams racing into the harbour on Wednesday and Friday evenings during the season. Indeed you might well spot the Tregarthen’s gig, which we gave to the islands to mark our 150th anniversary in 1999. During the World Championships in May, the quay throngs with crowds who congregate to witness the colourful spectacle of teams from all over the world battling it out for the prestigious world titles.
